Does Lent Have Meaning for Religious Liberals?

Rev. Felicia Urbanski

You may have heard the joke about the Unitarian who didn't know what to give up for Lent, so he gave up coming on Sundays. The problem was that he forgot to come back when the forty days were over! THOSE DIFFICULT WORDS - "Church"

Rev. Felicia Urbanski

In composing my very first column for this newsletter, your editor kindly suggested that I not refer to this place as a "church", but rather to say "Unitarian House" or "the congregation". I obliged, mainly so that I wouldn't be in hot water before our time together had even started! Now that we are more familiar with one another, I would like to tackle another difficult word in my sermon series for this year. Are we a "church" or not? What does this word mean, anyway? Or, perhaps more importantly, how can we possibly re-appropriate the meaning of such a word?
